The Lynnhurst Choir

Join the Lynnhurst Choir!  No auditions necessary. We rehearse Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 pm in the church lounge and briefly before the Sunday service at 9:30 am. The choir sings for most Sunday and at special services. We sing a wide variety of choral music ranging from classic to contemporary. You do not need to be a church member to join the choir. All interested singers are welcome! For more information, contact the church office at church.office@lynnhurstucc.org.

Choir on Christmas Eve

This Week's Music Notes

This Sunday, October 1, Lynnhurst offers a warm welcome to guest cellist Lars Krogstad-Ortiz!  Lars is visiting Minnesota from his maternal home in Puebla, Mexico. Lars has shared his extraordinary talents of music with Lynnhurst on many occasions and we thank him for joining us once again this morning!

The Voluntaries in today’s service, World Communion Sunday, are all modern transcriptions for cello and keyboard of relatively new music from differing cultures. Joe Utterback’s (b 1944) Affirmation, and Perry Nelson’s (b 1955) Pace Mio Dio/Bring Peace to Earth Again, are examples of American Contemporary and jazz influenced music for worship. The Estonian composer, Arvo Pärt’s (b 1935) minimalist piece for cello and piano, Spiegel im Spiegel (Mirror in Mirror) written in 1978, is an example of Pärt’s self- described style, tintinabuli, and is loosely inspired by Gregorian Chant. Argentinian composer, Viktor Jortack, interprets the Eucharistic anthem, Lamb of God, into a spirited Latin Tango. This piece was often requested by our dear friend Cordelia Johnson, and now is referred to as Cordelia’s Tango.

Please plan to join Lynnhurst in worship next Sunday, October 8, for music from the Lynnhurst Choir with Ben Dyleuth and guest organist Leslee Nestingen.
