Choir on Christmas Eve

This Week's Music Notes

Music for Sunday, January 21, includes two Scottish hymntunes, Kelvingrove- Won’t You Come and Follow Me  at the Offertory, and Dundee- Almighty God Your Word is Cast at the Postlude.  We warmly welcome soprano Karin Krisetya who will sing the aria, How Beautiful are the Feet of Those who Bring the Gospel of Peace from the Messiah written in 1741 by George F Handel (1685-1759) and bass John Goodrich who will serve as cantor on Psalm 62.  We thank both Karin and John for sharing their marvelous gifts of music with us in worship this morning!

During the Season of Ephiphany, the Choir will be singing Psalms from the Psaltery included in the hymnal. The Psalm for Epiphany Sunday is Psalm 29, The Voice of God is Filled with Majesty. It may be found on page 638 of the New Century Hymnal. Paul Olson will be the cantor with the choir singing the response. The Choir anthem is the Gospel hymn Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Jesus, the Light of the World. Using the familiar Christmas Carol text by Charles Wesley, African American composer Geoge Elderkin adapted the Carol into a Gospel hymn around 1890. Join us!
