Choir on Christmas Eve

This Week's Music Notes

The music for Sunday, May 6, has all been written in this century and is reflective of sharing Communion during the service.  The Prelude, O Bread of Life from Heaven (Innsbruck)  arranged  in 2007 by Minneapolis organist Aaron David Miller, and the choir anthem, Christ the Apple Tree, written in 2009 by St Olaf Alumni, Stanford Scriven (b. 1988) both depict Christ in the familiar light of unwavering strength and source of abundant life.

The Offertory is a setting of the song, Holy Spirit Rain Down, written by American composer and worship leader Russell Fragar. South Korean composer Yiruma (b. 1978) wrote and published the Musical Offering at the Communion, Chaconne, in 2003, and the Postlude is a contemporary setting of the familiar hymn Praise to the Lord, the Almighty ( Neander), arranged by Phillip Keveren in 2005.
