Message from Pastor Cynthia

March 29, 2018

Dear Beloved Community,

How I yearn to gather with you on Easter Sunday and declare, “Alleluia! Christ is risen! Alleluia! We are risen!” And yet first we must continue walking with Jesus through this Holy Week, where we encounter betrayal, desertion, humiliation, and crucifixion. As Christians we are aware that the realities of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are not limited to events 2000 years ago. In these days in which we live we are surrounded by examples of God’s dream being betrayed and crucified. Innocent black men are unjustly accused and incarcerated; women’s bodies are brutalized and objectified in the media to sell products; Mother Earth and her natural resources are ravaged by our consumption; divisive fear and violence permeate our relationships and social fabric.

And yet, in the midst of those death-dealing realities, the miracle of resurrection is still at work. God is still at work, breathing new life into our weary souls, whispering reminders of our beloved core identity, and asking us to open the eyes of our hearts to experience the glimpses of new life surrounding us in growth and transformation.

After Easter, we’ll transition into the Great 50 Days preparing for Pentecost. During April we will engage in our Stewardship Campaign, “Building on the Basics: Maintain the Momentum.” I’m looking forward to learning more of how, together, we Step Up in following our Risen Christ.

In gratitude to our God who calls us together to engage in life-giving, hope-stretching, justice-seeking, mutual ministry...

Blessings, Pastor Cynthia
