Family Worship Day (First Sunday of Month)

"People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; when the disciples saw it, they sternly ordered them not to do it. But Jesus called for them and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom as a little child will never enter it."
Luke 18:15-17

The first Sunday of every month is Family Worship Day. This is a time when children and youth are invited to stay in the congregation to worship and take communion together with their family as part of the larger community.

Two of the ways our faith is formed include Worship in Community and Caring/Trusted Relationships. We honor our commitment to being an intergenerational church by inviting children to practice their faith through hands-on participation in the life, ministries, and activities of the congregation. Having children in worship helps us to act as community and is a wonderful opportunity to include and welcome children, so they learn that they belong.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

"Shawls ... made for centuries universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles..."

Janet Severi Bristow, 1998

Prayer Shawls1 (640x456)One of the unique ways Lynnhurst members extend their and God's love is through our Prayer Shawl Ministry. An open and welcoming group gathers regularly to knit soft and beautiful shawls, which are freely given to those experiencing illness, grief, a new child, sadness, marriage or any rite of passage or need.

The shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. The intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way. Thus, the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of a sheltering, mothering God!
