Faith Formation

What is Faith Formation? Nicole Urbach, Lynnhurst’s Director of Faith Formation, describes it this way:
“… The process of engaging and helping our young people learn to trust God and be the church. And here’s the sneaky thing about it…as we are busy supporting our young people in developing their faith, our own faith is challenged, deepened, enriched, and expanded.“

Prayer Shawl Ministry

"Shawls ... made for centuries universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles..."

Janet Severi Bristow, 1998

Prayer Shawls1 (640x456)One of the unique ways Lynnhurst members extend their and God's love is through our Prayer Shawl Ministry. An open and welcoming group gathers regularly to knit soft and beautiful shawls, which are freely given to those experiencing illness, grief, a new child, sadness, marriage or any rite of passage or need.

The shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. The intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way. Thus, the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of a sheltering, mothering God!
